The Department for European Policies and the Ministry of Universities Research (MUR) promoted the National Composition Competition dedicated to the memory of Maestro Ezio Bosso and inspired to the phrase "Europe is like an orchestra, music has no borders", which the Maestro stated on 26 June 2018 during a speech at the European Parliament.

The competition was aimed at students enrolled in the 2019-2020 Academic Year in the Composition and Conducting courses at the Higher Institutes of Musical Studies and at private institutions recognised by the State pursuant to Article 11 of Presidential Decree 212/2005.

In order to participate, candidates  submitted – by 30 September 2020 – an original composition, with or without text, inspired to the theme of the competition and never before performed.

A jury composed of distinguished musicians assessed the works. Each of the authors of the three winning compositions will be awarded a €2,000 prize made available by the Department for European Policies of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.

The three prize-winning compositions will be performed by the National Conservatoire Orchestra during an event organised consistently with the health situation.
